Steps towards a modern CMS for our web pages

Let’s discuss how to do the transition from old .wml web pages to a modern CMS. What do we need to get rid of the old combination of make, git, wml, perl/python/shell scripts that is still used for our web pages.

What do we need in a future CMS? Some ideas:

  • revision control
  • web interface for translators
  • tracking changes in the english pages for translators
  • do we still need git?
  • How to convert the scripts that are creating wml output?
  • markdown
  • visual editor
  • workflow

A web service for building your own customized Debian live image

I will instroduce a new web based service for building customized Debian live images. You can easily select a desktop environment, the language and keyboard layout and add additional packages that are added to the live environment.

After a few minutes your own live image is ready for download and can be copied onto an USB stick. Then, just boot from this device and enjoy.

Because this is a web service, you don’t need any technical knowledge about Linux commands for using this service.

FAIme web service DIY workshop

Let’s try the FAIme web service for customized installation, cloud and live images together with help of the main author. After a short introduction you will be able to use the web service on your own. Any questions will be answered by the author of this service who also like to get feedback for more feature requests.

Bring your laptop and have a virtual environment like qemu/KVM, VirtualBox, virt-manager, Proxmox VE or VMware prepared to run your own customized ISO or cloud image using a virtual machine. There’s no need to preapre any VM in advance.
